My Comenius Day in Spain by Alexander Hegenbarth
At the last weekend of November 2012 our German Comenius-group which includes me flight to Barcelona. First we had some problems or better the flight-line had some problems with the snow so we arrived first at Thursday evening at the airport in Barcelona.
I was really lucky to get on this trip because only four pupils were allowed to come with to Spain. Correctly it was Catatonia and this is a very important factor for them to live more in Catatonia than in Spain. This way you don´t have to wonder if you see their so much of their flags. In the late evening we met our exchange students the first time. Frankly, I don´t talk to mine ever before and it was difficult to come in a fluid speech ,so we talk more about easy things, like sport, weather and our own traditions or landmarks. His family was also very pleasant and friendly, so they want to do everything they could, that I would have four unforgettable days their. At Friday our journey start with being at their school to learn some basic things about their language and history and go on by presenting our work for the topic “Our way to freedom” like videos of interviews. Then we go to Barcelona city by train along the sea and beach in front of the Mediterranean Sea. This day we walk around the seven hills surrounding Barcelona and see this about 3 Million big town from above and the next day we visit the historical museum of Catalonia.Unfortunately we had to leave the next day to be punctually on Monday morning at school. But this for days were a fantastic little vacation of school with learning much about Catalonien, the different between Catalonien and Spain and their inhabitants, history and language, but we also know now somerthing about flight-lines and their problems with the snow and last but not least about us self. So I would say it was an sucessful weekend.

My Comenius days in Spain – Vilassar de Mar
Our trip started at 6 o’clock in the morning at
the train station in our hometown Amberg. After a long journey from Nuremberg
to Barcelona with a missed plane we finally arrived at the airport, from which
went by train to Vilassar, where we also met our exchange partners the first
time.
My guest family was very nice and we had always much fun together. On Friday we met after breakfast at the school, where all guest students got instructions about the next days and Catalonia. We also learned a bit Catalan and presented after a lunch break our projects we prepared at home.
It was very interesting to see the countries ‘Ways to freedom’ shown by themselves.
Then in the afternoon we went the first time to Barcelona, where we saw the skyline of the city from one of the mountains, the Montjuic. The sight was amazing, we could see to Vilassar because of the clean air. We also got some interesting information about the area. Then we walked through cacti to the famous bench from Gaudi, unfortunately it got dark then so we left Barcelona for this day.
But not for long because on Saturday our trip took us to the Museum of Catalan history there, where we had a good tour around the exhibition. Later we went to Parc de la Ciutadella to spend there our lunchtime. Afterwards we went altogether around the old town of Barcelona, where we could walk by ourselves through the shops and the Christmas market.
So the end of our trip was reached because our group went back on Sunday already. My Comenius Days in Spain were a great experience with a nice host family, students from other countries and a wonderful city.

My Comenius-
Days in Villasar de Mar
On 29th of
November, when we all met at the train station at about 6 o´clock in the
morning, everyone was really excited and eager to get to know what would happen
the next days in Spain. It was hard for us to have to wait at the airports for so
long, but in the end we sat on the plane to Barcelona! Having arrived, 5 hours
later than we thought, we took the train to Vilassar de Mar, together with the
Polish and the Croatian students and the Spanish teacher, who were all very
nice , and we had a good time by talking to each other, for example. Later I
met my host family, and they were all very cool. We had dinner at half past
nine, which was very strange for me because I do usually eat much earlier, but
after the long journey I was quite hungry. After that, we went to a bar
together with other Comenius students which was very funny, even if we didn´t
stay too long because we were all tired. On Friday at school, a Spanish teacher
told us what we were going to do while we were in Spain, and after that she told
us much about Catalonia, its history and about Catalan language. This was
interesting since I didn´t know much about it before. Afterwards every country
presented their contribution to the “Our way to freedom”-project, and this way
we got to know each other´s countries well. In the afternoon, the group went to
Barcelona, and we were led to one of the hills it is built on. Up there, a
guide told us a bit about the history and the landscape. We had a really good
view from up there so we took many photos. Back in Vilassar, a big part of the
Comenius-group went to a restaurant together. We all got to know each other
better and talked a lot about many different things, so we had really much fun J. The next morning the students went to Barcelona
again. First of all, we visited a museum about Catalan history. I really liked
the way the tour guide told us the information because it was not boring at
all. I went to the “Maremagnum” in the free time we had after that, and
together with the other Germans I rested at the harbour after looking around
the shops in the shopping centre. The next stop was a wonderful park where we
could all have our lunch and look around the park or the city on our own. In
the afternoon we were shown the old city of Barcelona which is very impressive,
before we went through the streets ourselves again. That day we also had a
great time together and had the possibility to experience what international contacts
really mean! On Sunday, we were the first group to return home. We were all
sad, but of course we will all stay in touch! All in all the trip to Vilassar
de Mar was a unique experience. I liked the relaxed atmosphere and getting to
know much about Spain and the other countries. I won´t forget neither trips to
the beach until about half past 11 pm nor the sound of so many different
languages in one room.

My Comenius days - Barcelona
Our journey started very early in Amberg. We
were four pupils, two teachers and the wife of our headmaster. We met at 6 a.m.
at the train station and in spite of the snow the train came on time. One hour
later we were in Nuremberg on the main train station. Then we drove to the
airport, dropped our luggage and waited for our plane. But then the problems
started. Because it was the first day with snow, the airports had problems with
the planes so many flights were delayed. We waited two hours for our plane and
when we finally landed in Munich, our connecting flight was away. So we had to
wait for three hours again. Luckily the plane had seven free seats, so we could
fly to Barcelona. When we got our luggage again we waited with the pupils from
Poland for the pupils from Croatia and other countries. After a two hour train
trip we arrived tired and very hungry in Vilassar de Mar and went to our guest
families. I was very happy that I had my own room, good food and a very
friendly family. On the next day we went to school for three hours and listened
to a Spanish teacher who explained us the program for the next days. After that
all pupils showed their videos and their presentations. Then we went down to
the train station and drove to Barcelona. At first we drove through the city by
bus on a hill and then we walked through a park and then through the dark city
to the train station. In the evening we went all into a Chinese restaurant but
it tasted not so good. On our last day we drove to Barcelona by bus. At first
we went into a museum and got a talk about the history of Catalonia. But we
only had time for the antiquity and the middle ages. After that we drove to a
park where we had two hours free time. After sleeping and feeding birds there
we went to downtown and watched buildings from the Roman time. Afterwards we
had free time for 2,5 hours. The city was very nice and we went into nice
shops, but it was dark and cold outside. Then we drove home with the bus and
came happy and tired to our families. Sunday was the departure day for us
Germans, so the Spanish teachers drove us to the airport in Barcelona and we
flew back home. I can say that it was a very nice exchange and I was very glad
to live in a very friendly family. The weather could have been better but all
in all I had four nice days.
