My Comenius days in Croatia, Friederike Schattke

From  the 09.05.’13 until the 13.05.’13 I took part in the Comenius meeting in Zagreb, Croatia. Even though we arrived pretty late in the evening on the first day, we still were able to have dinner in the Chill Out Hostel, which surprised many of us. What was also astonishing for us, was that it was sooo warm, so on our second day we were all able to wear short pants or dresses.
On the second day we visited the school. Before we watched each country’s presentations, a short but interesting talk about Croatia was given by two pupils. After the presentations had ended, everybody got their certificate, but there was another surprise hidden: we all got our own Comenius t-shirts, too. We went to have lunch in a restaurant and after that we had a guided tour through Zagreb, when it suddenly started raining. But we didn’t go back to the hostel, we just waited a few minutes and then the sun came out again.
The third day started with a long bus trip (4 hours!) to our destination: the city of Vukovar, which had been pretty damaged during the war between the Serbs and the Croatians. In Vukovar we also had a guided tour. First, we visited the hospital, in which one part was turned into a museum now.  After that we visited a hangar where they put their prisoners inside and where they had to wait until they were deported.  Our last station before we went back to Zagreb on this day was a memorial for all the people that died and suffered in this war.
Sunday, the last day, arrived too early, but the program on that day let us forget that the next day we had to go home again: We visited the Plitvice National Park. The park itself was so beautiful, although it rained.
All in all, it was a great experience to go to Croatia and I think I learned pretty much about its history.

My Comenius Day, Katharina Reich

On 9th May we left Germany and went to Zagreb; we were so excited. After the long trip, I think it was about twelve hours by train, we arrived in Zagreb.
The next morning, we visited the small Croatian school with only around fifty pupils. We got there by tramway. We were lucky to have such a nice weather. It was warm and sunny, but not too hot. There we watched some presentations by the pupils from the other exchange countries about repressive methods during totalitarianism. After that we had lunch and then we went on a sightseeing tour through Zagreb, which was very interesting. The end of our first day was very nice with hanging out together with all the people of our Comenius project. So we got to know each other in the evening.
On our second day in Croatia we were in Vukovar, where we visited a museum which was a hospital. While the war of Croatia and Serbia this hospital was attacked by a lot of bombs. The situation was terrible and bad for all the sick persons, who were there at that time. Before we went back to our hostel we visited some memorials of Vukovar. On our last day in Croatia we visited one of Croatia’s famous national parks - The Plitvice National Park. I liked the excursion so much! It was such a picturesque area. On the same day, after arriving at the hostel and having dinner, we sadly had to say “goodbye“ to our new friends, but we are still contact with them. The next day we left Croatia early in the morning, so that we arrived at home at about 7pm.

My comenius days in Zagreb, Wagner Yannik
On Thursday, 9th of May, early in the morning, 5 girls, 2 boys and 1 teacher went by train to Zagreb.  After our arrival in Zagreb we were welcomed by the Croatian headmistress at the train station and brought to a youth hostel where we had dinner and met some pupils from all the other countries.
The next morning we went to our Croatian partner school by tram where we were welcomed again and watched our presentations.  For lunch we went to a restaurant. The Croatian food was very good. In the afternoon we did some sightseeing in Zagreb. The next day we went to Vukovar, a town that was heavily destroyed during the Croatian war. It was really sad to see the hospital museum. On Sunday we went to the Plitvice national park which liked very much. There were so many nice lakes. Unfortunately we had to say good-bye on Monday. For me that was to early I would have liked to stay longer in Croatia  because
it was really a very nice experience and all the people I met there were so nice.

My comenius days in Croatia, Schrott Miriam

When I decided to spend some days in Zagreb  I have never expected that it would be so great there! I just wanted to improve my English and met some nice people, but it was a fantastic journey for me that I will never forget.
The journey to Zagreb was very funny because there were also my friends with me, so we talked to each other, laughed and played together. But when we arrived, I was a little bit tired because it was such a long trip by train.
The next morning we went to the Croatian school which was  rather a little one, they just have around 50 pupils. There we were officially welcomed and then our videos were shown. In the afternoon we were shown some interesting sights of Zagreb. I like that town very much.
On  Saturday we were brought to Vukovar, a small town which was heavily attacked during the Croatian war. We visited the hospital of Vukovar which was under siege during the Croatian war. It was really terrible.
On Sunday we went to the Plitvice national park where we were shown some very nice lakes, we also took a boat to cross one of these lakes.
It was really an unhappy moment when it was time to say goodbye because I met so many nice people and made many new friends. I really hope that I will see them again.

My Comenius day, Luni Hu

The third meeting of the Comenius project took place in the capital city of Croatia – Zagreb. On 9th May 2013 in the evening we finally arrived in Zagreb. We stayed in the chill-out hostel which was located in the city center. We shared the room with two girls from Spain and also other students from Hungary, Poland, Estonia, Lithuania and Poland slowly arrived in the hostel, so the first contact between the countries started. On the next day we visited the school ISI and watched the videos every school prepared for this event. The theme was “The Repressive Methods” and it was really interesting to listen to each videos and their history. After the documentaries we had lunch, which was very delicious. The day continued with a sightseeing tour around the city and in the evening we had free time which we spent with the other students. On Saturday we drove with the bus to Vukovar to visit the famous hospital. It was one of the most interesting parts during our visit in Zagreb. A guide lead us the whole trip in Vukovar and told us about the situation in 1991. This city is also a symbol of the Croatian War for Independence. But the highlight was on our last day. We visited the largest and oldest national park in Croatia – the Plitvice Lakes National Park. During the hours in the national park we saw many amazing waterfalls and 16 beautiful lakes. The whole time I was impressed by the stunning environment and scenery. Finally the day we had to go back to Germany came. We were all a little bit sad to leave because it was a great time in Croatia. We also learnt a lot about their history and their culture.
